The choice of wire is an important consideration for RFID antennas.  The characteristics (size, number of strands, strand size) will affect the inductance and resistance of the loop.


Choose a wire with heavy insulation and preferably waterproof.


In extreme cases the wrong wire size will cause excessive resonance (high Q) which can burn up electronic circuits and melt plastic components.



Smaller diameter wire (solid or stranded) will have more electrical resistance than a larger wire size.  If the wire is too small then the power will be restricted and performance limited.  If the wire size is too large then damage can occur.
