ORSR has power but will not turn on (external lights don't turn on)

Hello, I was wondering if anybody else has encountered the issue that I am having with several readers. I have tried multiple power sources, including AC, 12V battery, and the portable battery pack from Oregon RFID. Our readers will not turn on, so I waited a week to try to turn them back on if they just needed time to reset but that did not work. I have also tried opening the back, which has lights on (alternating between 031 and 032, photos attached) so the power source is working, and I have tried pressing the reset button but nothing I have tried has allowed me to turn on the reader. I have also tried connecting to the terminal (CoolTerm) to see if I can connect to try updating the firmware, but the readers are not detectable/the terminal does not let us type anything (I have checked the settings and port, and it works with our other readers). Does anybody have any suggestions?

I have the same problem, what can I do to fix my equipment?

In this case, I changed all the cables, I even managed to update the firmware, but without success.

These messages appear on my coolterm

Jhonnes Santos - I encountered the same problem you are having when I tried to update my ORSR firmware.  I was using the ORSR Full firmware and should have been using the ORSR Network firmware.  Following the steps in the Oregon RFID firmware update guide with the network firmware fixed my issues.  Hopefully it helps you too.

Hi Adrian. I have the exact same problem. Did you managed to sort this out?

I think I have figured out how to work around this issue, the following is my guide I have created for if my coworkers run into the same issue:

  1. Double check that the cord is in the right computer port correlated to your terminal
  2. Double check that it is the right cord being used. Different computers only like to work with certain cords.
  3. If everything is plugged in right and still no lights, try holding down the Power, Tune, and Beeper buttons on the front of the reader all at the same time for 3 seconds (while the reader is still plugged into the computer) and then try to connect again.
  4. If that doesn’t work, you will have to take the back off of the reader (undo all the small screws on the back) while keeping the reader plugged in and press the small reset button for a second. This will usually prompt a software update, so make sure you have the software update file open and copied.
  5. If you get an error message that says “timeout no firmware”, try resetting the reader (while still plugged in to CoolTerm and connected to power) by holding the three buttons on the front for a couple of seconds, then pressing the reset button again and try updating the firmware again. If there is a firmware error message, try a different firmware update file from the website.

I found that using the comment from Tyrell above was helpful and using the “Network Firmware Update” leads to fewer issues than using the “Full Firmware Update”.

Hopefully this helps, and sorry I didn't get back to this post sooner!
